Cyclone Tauktae

  •   Tropical Cyclone in Arabian Sea in pre monsoon period (April to June)
  •  Named by Myanmar- meaning of Tauktae is highly vocal lizard, in Burmese language
  •  It is fourth cyclone in Arabian sea in consecutive years- in 2018- Cyclone Mekanu, in 2019 Cyclone Vayu- in 2020- Cyclone Nisarga
  • All these cyclones have been categorized as ‘Severe Cyclone or above’
  • As impact of Global Warming Arabian Sea is becoming hotbed of cyclones.

 

Tropical Cyclone

  • It is exclusively form over tropical seas
  • Winds whirling around their eye (low pressure at center)
  • Winds blows anticlockwise in Northern hemisphere and clockwise in southern hemisphere
  • Derives their energy through warm water bodies, evaporation
  • Referred by different names- hurricane, typhoon
